Diversity Coaching - Working with difference
Increasing levels of diversity in the work place means that today’s manager is called upon to effectively manage differences in work-style, approach and background.
Globalisation requires managers to be able to communicate and operate effectively cross culturally, which in turn requires an ability to engage and work with diversity. Consequently developing diversity or cultural competence is an important part of the skill set of effective managers. Coach for Change provides a unique diversity coaching process where managers start from the position of understanding their own diversity as a basis for understanding the diversity of others.
When things go wrong
Managing diversity successfully can be complex and challenging. Problems with doing this successfully may lead to allegations of bullying, harassment or discrimination. Our Coaches can help the manager to appreciate what has led to the situation, and how to prevent similar situations occurring in the future. The coach can work either with the manager alone, in confidence; or with both parties, as appropriate. Early intervention in a dispute, can often support people to reach a resolution, and avoid a lengthy and costly disputes.
Diversity and Organisational Coaching
Although an individual manager may have a big part to play in problems with diversity, at the root of many cases are often problems with an organisation’s culture and systems relating to performance management, management development, recruitment and dignity at work. Coach for Change uses an organisational systems perspective to identify the institutional, as well as individual, drivers of the problems that have arisen. Working closely with the senior team, we can help them to develop a strategy for the successful management of diversity through out the organisation.
Managing Diverse Teams
Research shows that teams that have a diversity of members can be more innovative and creative, but only if they can capitalise on those differences. Coaching diverse teams and their leaders will enable them to develop the shared team identity, performance expectations and interpersonal behaviour that make diversity effective.
Minority Managers
Minority managers can often feel isolated. They may lack role models, and access to informal networks and support. Coaching will provide minority managers with the support they need to improve their effectiveness and confidence in the workplace.
